We are looking for a contract finance and operations expert to support our team and clients like Hearst, CBS/Viacom, XPrize Foundation, and other market leaders.

Job Summary

The Head of Finance and Operations role for an exciting impact-focused startup accelerator puts you in a leadership position to “Elevate the Way Business Does Business"

Working remotely on a contract basis, your role within our “mature startup” environment will be to collaborate directly with the CEO to ensure that the financial and operational infrastructure needed to support the company’s sales, consulting, and product development teams is in place. 

Areas that you will oversee include accounting, finance, HR, and office administration. Your job is to make these functions lean, responsive, and accountable, with top-notch partners and contractors that you help select and oversee. You will work hands on with complex revenue models that include equity, options / warrants, and cryptocurrency tokens, and must be comfortable with invoicing, processing, and accounting for all of these. 

Fluid, creative thinkers with a sense of ownership and a start-up can-do mentality are critical to success. We are seeking candidates with experience in the culture of start-ups and tech / internet / blockchain, with traits such as real-time responsiveness, resourcefulness, and a strong work ethic.

Time commitment: Part-time hourly to start (approximately 10 hrs per week), with possibility of increased time within 3-6 months.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide strategic management of the accounting and finance functions including monthly reporting 
  • Direct accounting policies, procedures and internal controls
  • Assist with the development and use of best-practice policies, practices, and tools that ensure a well-controlled yet flexible organization with strong fiscal management, project management, cross team communications and workflow
  • Recommend improvements to ensure the integrity of a company’s financial information
  • Manage / oversee the relationship with CPAs and independent auditors
  • Collaborate with CTO on technology decisions, with special focus regarding upgrading to AI driven bookkeeping and credit card reconciliation services, and oversight on current outsourced AP partner
  • Oversee financial systems implementations and upgrades
  • Manage finance personnel and oversee financial IT systems, ensuring compliance with all applicable Financial Accounting Standards Board, Internal Revenue Service, State Attorney General, and other relevant regulations
  • Manage relationships with banks, investors, and investment institutions such as Merrill Lynch, etc.
  • Oversee and reconcile crypto currency assets including all token transactions, with our crypto outsource for Blufolio, etc.
  • Identifying and managing business risks and insurance requirements
  • Oversee HR function, coordinating with external service providers (payroll, benefits, and general HR) and internal staff responsible for various aspects of HR 
  • Creating annual operating budgets in partnership with CEO
  • Coordinate the development of the annual capital, and program budgets, and reporting against the same
  • Help drive the company’s financial strategy and hiring needs
  • Ensure cash flow is compatible with company operations, by overseeing the day-to-day accounting, recording, reporting, and internal control activities of the company
  • Assist with the development and use of best-practice policies, practices, and tools that ensure a well-controlled yet flexible organization with strong fiscal management, project management, cross team communications and workflow
  • Complying with federal, state, and local financial requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing compliance, and taking action
  • Manage the company insurance portfolio, research renewal quotes, and ensure compliance
  • Oversee CEO’s personal finances in coordination with other finance team members
  • Manage year end close and submission of corporate tax returns with CPA
  • Work with the senior management to efficiently develop proposal budgets, provide access to project finance information, and manage contract/grant compliance and reporting
  • Research revenue opportunities and economic trends, analyze internal operations, identify areas of cost reduction and process enhancement
  • Performing risk management through analysis of company liabilities and investments, and evaluate and manage capital structure and fundraising initiatives
  • Monitoring performance with tracking, establish corrective measures as needed, and prepare detailed reports, both current and forecasting for earnings calls, the management team, and the rest of the company
